Wajeeh Y. Nuseibeh's official title is Doorkeeper of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. It is a title that has been in his family, and passed down the generations since Ottoman times. After the Crimean War and other communal conflicts over the jurisdiction of Christian Holy places, it was decided that the duty of opening and closing this sacred site would rest in the hands of a Muslim family.
