Three
Israeli soldiers pray at the Western Wall, "center
of the world" and holiest spot on earth to Jews. Dating
back to 20 B.C., it is accepted as the only surviving part
and outside retaining wall to the Great Temple. Access to
this site is heavily protected and one must enter via airport-like
Xray security stations. Jews were unable to visit this site
between 1948 and 1967 when Jerusalem was a divided city
and the Old City was under Jordanian control.
