Arab Muslims make up the largest of the Old City's quarters with approximately 26,000 residents, twice as many as the other quarters combined. Many here have Jordanian citizenship as they were registered or born during Jordanian rule. All are now technically eligible for Israeli citizenship. When asked about this Marouan (33), answered, "We are Jerusalemites, rulers have come and gone: Read our history, since the Birth of Christ, we've had the Romans, Byzantines, Mamluks, Turks, British, Jordanians, now the Israelis. One day, Ain She' Allah (If God Wills It), we will have our own voice".
