Old
City Jerusalem, Al-Quds, Yerushalaim: Calm in the eye of the storm
The familiar images of
aggression are surprisingly absent from the Old City, yet less than
20 minutes away, violence rages. Why have Jews, Muslims and Christians
been fighting for control of this city for at least a millennia?
How can physical proof of our shared beginnings, the root of all
3 of our mythologies and traditions, spur us to such division and
destruction?
It is amazing that here,
despite being in the eye of the storm, we as Jews, Christians and
Muslims are capable of co-existing. The Old City of Jerusalem is
indeed a living paradox.
Every evening the singing
of the Koran mixes with the chanting of Hebrew prayers and the tolling
of the Church bells. Wonder of wonders...hope can be found in the
most peculiar places.
